As this charming 8-week-old puppy with six legs was born, there was a good chance that her breeders would have him put down. But now that she has been rescued by a loving family, the energetic puppy delights a boy who is being bullied because of his skin condition.
Since the Labrador Mix puppy was born with two additional forelegs that hinder her gait, she bounces around on her hind legs like a kangaroo – which is why her new owner, 15-year-old Luke Salmon, called her Roo.
“When she jumps on us, she looks like a kangaroo, hence the name,” said Luke’s mother Lauren Salmon. “But when she leaves, she somehow staggers on her elbows, her ass in the air like an army creep.
Salmon from Orpington, Kent, bought Roo two weeks ago from breeders in Essex after Luke discovered the special puppy online.
When Luke and his mother set out to gather rest, she “jumped out” of her puppy owner and jumped towards the couple on her hind legs.
“From then on it was love at first sight for Luke and Ruh,” says Salmon. “Luke is like a protective father. They never let each other from the side and she even sleeps in his bed.
Since Luke suffers from psoriasis – a condition in which the skin is covered with scaly red spots – he was often bullied at school because of his illness.
But having Roo as his new dog companion has brought Luke’s life a whole new therapeutic area.
“Luke feels like a loner because of his condition, and now he has a best friend who can keep up with him,” says Salmon. “I think Ruh will relieve Luke’s stress and that should help his skin.”
