In May 2015, an osteosarcoma, also known as bone cancer, was diagnosed in a beautiful chocolate laboratory called Bella. Her owner, Robert Kugler from Nebraska, was told that either Bella’s front leg should be amputated or she should be laid down immediately because she was in pain. The decision to amputate Bella’s leg was made and she was given three to six months to live because the cancer had spread to her lungs. After the operation, Kugler decided to take his furry best friend to a final farewell adventure.
“I am the best version of myself when I am with her and I wanted to be that person full time. I wanted to share moments with her when it was just her and me under the big blue sky,” Kugler said to Bored Panda. They’ve travelled to a number of places across the country, including Chicago, Key West, Nashville and Savannah – but the journey isn’t over yet! Now, 14 months later, the two still travel across the country enjoying each other’s company. How’s Bella doing now? “She’s fantastic,” Kugler said to Bored Panda. “The vets said they should “continue what we’re doing because it obviously works.”
